As Canada's oldest model United Nations Conference, the North American Model United Nations Conference in Toronto is one of the premier student conferences in Canada and North America. NAMUN has been supported by such notable individuals as the Canadian Ambassador to the United Nations, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science, the Chairman of the Jackman Foundation and Partners of such prestigious law firms as Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt. As the University of Toronto St. George Campus' largest international conference, its impact, breadth and reach around the world is unmatched by any other student conference here at the University. Here are the reasons why we feel that NAMUN provides you with unparalleled opportunities:
Experience Model UN: Since the United Nations' founding in 1945, the UN has played an important function in facilitating international peace and stability. In today's sophisticated and increasingly inter-connected world, it is more important than ever to understand the crucial and often underestimated role the United Nations plays. Be part of the NAMUN team and experience one of the most prestigious simulations of the United Nations.
Expand Your Horizons: NAMUN XXVII is U of T's largest international conference. It has attracted students from universities in the United States, Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. Explore different cultures, discuss common topics and build friendships with students all around the world. Broaden your perspectives and open your mind.
Stand out: NAMUN XXVII is not just another U of T student organization. Its prestige and reputation is unmatched on campus. Be part of something incredible. Be part of something special. Be part of NAMUN.
Unforgettable Experiences: During the conference, you're not just doing work. There is an exciting line-up of events planned for you - from bar nights to the once-in-a-lifetime Annual Gala Dinner in the Great Hall of Hart House. Mingle with students around the world, enjoy your cocktail, and have fun; we promise you many memorable times. Develop core skills: As staff member, you will gain invaluable skills. You will learn how to moderate debates, control committees and direct crises. You will also gain experience in leadership, management and communication.
What if I'm not a MUN-type of person?
For students who are in programs conventionally unrelated to Model UN, such as the Life Sciences, Engineering, Pharmacy and Commerce, NAMUN XXVII can help you stand out from the crowd. Employers are looking for individuals who are diverse in their interests and who have accomplishments beyond their fields. One of our former Secretariat members cited NAMUN as 'extremely helpful' in landing him a job at Deloitte, an accounting firm. The experience and skills you gain working with one of U of T's most challenging organizations are invaluable. As well, UN bodies discuss all kinds of issues - from pharmaceutical research and vaccination to anti-corruption practices to nuclear warfare. There's something for everyone.
Application Process
Every fall, NAMUN recruits talented, motivated and eager individuals to staff our conference. This fall is no exception - we are looking for individuals who demonstrate interest, passion and initiative. Applications are competitive, and we urge you to apply early.
Please fill out this form and email it back to us at staff@namun.org.
After your application is received, Administrative or Academic Secretariat & Staff will review your documents. If we think that NAMUN XXVII will be an enriching experience for you, we will contact you for an interview. If you are selected as staff for NAMUN XXVII, you are required to attend mandatory training sessions and other meetings as required.
